Established in the 20th century, this hillside arboretum now contains over 1,000 different shrubs and trees, many of them rare. Description of image - View from the top of the Azalea Steps at Winkworth Arboretum. This area was created by Dr. Fox during the war and is planted with massed evergreen azaleas with a background of maples.
Description of image - Acer palmatum (Japanese Maples) in their glorious autumn colour at Winkworth Arboretum. Some of their brilliant crimson leaves have fallen & contrast with the more common brown ground cover.
