Terrifying trails and gruesome tales: a haunting Halloween with the National Trust near you!

Enjoy Halloween with the National Trust and experience spine-chilling thrills at some of the most hauntingly atmospheric houses and castles across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
 
From terrifying trails and spooky story-telling to fearsome face painting and frightening fancy dress, there’s something to give the whole family the jitters.
 
Here’s a spooktacular selection of Halloween events on offer with the National Trust:
 
Bodiam Castle, East Sussex         
Spooky challenge, 22-30 October 11am – 3pm
Seek out the clues then track down the creepy castle character to claim a Halloween prize.

Belton House, Lincolnshire
Halloween happenings, 22-30 October 11am – 4pm
Wear a spooky costume and join Belton for a spooks, spoofs, ‘skellingtons’ and wellingtons family fun trail around the garden (£1.50); a magic pumpkin trail for small children;  masks a crafts in the discovery centre and frightening food in the restaurant.
Extras for weekends include fearsome face painting (£3) and spooky stories in the stables.

Halloween twilight trails, 26-28 October 5pm – 7pm
Only the brave should embark on this Halloween trail. Beware and be careful to make it back to the restaurant for a home-cooked Halloween supper.  Plus discover spooky treats all week in the Chartwell shop.

A bewitching weekend of spooky fun for all the family. Join in the Halloween craft workshop, see the owls, follow the trail, try the lucky dip and read creepy books. At the Halloween workshop, meet live spiders and scorpions and there’s also story telling from Hagrid. For those who want to really get in the spirit, enjoy frightening face painting, the fancy dress parade and lots more.

Explore the Dudmaston hall's garden in all its autumn glory. Admire the gold’s of the lime trees, the reds and yellows of the acres and the striking exposed white bark of the silver birches, while children follow the spooky Halloween trail round the grounds. Warm up by the log fire in the garden room where children can make a special Halloween memento. And visit the tearoom to try some traditional Halloween fayre.
