Local Lad celebrates the heritage of skills of Three Counties

Chris Beardshaw is enormously proud to be producing a major show garden at the Malvern Spring Gardening Show as a celebration piece for the Three Counties showground. As a local lad he has an intimate knowledge of the extraordinary and beautiful landscape from which he has gathered inspiration for his design. The garden will showcase the rural skills and craftsmanship of the area dating back 150 years to early Victorian England. The project will provide a unique opportunity to the girls of Adcote School, located just outside Shrewsbury, who will be helping Chris to grow some of the fruit and vegetable produce to be included in the garden. Their involvement will demonstrate the educational benefits gained from a project such as this which will encompass; horticulture, environment, history, geography, cookery, social, and outdoor learning.

Chris will also be employing the skills of local growers, farmers and craftsman who will have the opportunity to showcase their work in what is set to be an recreation of the life and activities of a bothy gardener complete with heritage fruit and vegetables , a cottage garden pharmacy, herb garden, orchard and livestock – all associated with this region

‘There can be no finer place in England to discover the rich heritage of agriculture and horticulture than in the three counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. And there can be no better event than the Malvern Spring Gardening show; this year in a major show garden we are planning to celebrate 150 years of the best of the three counties. With a genuine bothy garden all the shows have their own personality but you can be sure that when the Malvern show comes round spring officially starts’
