Visiting Gloucestershire Gardens

Every year, thousands of gardens throughout England and Wales get ready to welcome visitors through the National Gardens Scheme.

Here in Gloucestershire, we are very fortunate to have some really lovely gardens with great variety that you can enjoy time and again. Very often you will have a chance to meet the owners, enjoy home-made refreshments, and purchase some exciting plants – you will find all the details on this website. Alternatively, if you are looking further afield, please visit the national NGS website.

Open Your Garden?
Do you have a garden of quality, character and interest? Would you like to open it to the public and in doing so support charity? We are always interested to hear of potential gardens, large or small, that might open in the future.

About Us
I am delighted to report that 2009 was another very successful year for the ngs in Gloucestershire with some £100,000 being raised for the charities which the ngs supports and those nominated by individual garden owners. Our thanks must go to all garden owners who make their wonderful gardens available for the public to visit. I also very much hope that those who took the opportunity enjoyed their visits and that our unpredictable weather was kind to them.

We now look forward to 2010 and although some long standing gardens are no longer able to open for us I am delighted to say our visitors will have the opportunity to explore a number of new gardens, as well some old ones rejoining the scheme.
It just remains for me to wish both garden owners and our visitors a very enjoyable and successful gardening year in 2010.

Since 1927, NGS Has Provided Fine Gardens To Visit.
Every year NGS gardens across England and Wales welcome over half a million visitors. Our tradition of opening gardens of quality, character and interest is supported by our Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales.
Most gardens which open for the NGS are privately owned and open just a few times each year. Some gardens open as part of a group with the whole community involved. Others gardens open to the public on a regular or commercial basis and also contribute to the NGS in various ways.

Few people realise that through this we raise £2 million each year for nursing, caring and gardening charities. Since 1927 we have raised over £45 million (£25 million in the last 10 years). Our office is small so most of the money goes straight to the charities we support.

The NGS is a registered charity. We keep overheads low, so most of the money from the garden gate goes straight to our beneficiary charities. Our donations are "unrestricted" which means our money can be invested in areas which these charities consider vital to future development, and which might be difficult to fund from other sources.
