Thousands take up Get Set, Grow! challenge
Garden Organic’s nationwide campaign to encourage people to grow their own organic food for the first time has flourished beyond all expectations – attracting 15,000 entrants!
Europe’s largest organic gardening charity launched the “Get Set, Grow!” campaign to coincide with its recent change of working name, from HDRA to Garden Organic. Celebrity chef James Martin supported a press launch in Soho Square, London, on October 5 and the campaign received extensive coverage in the gardening, lifestyle and regional media.
The Get Set, Grow! campaign aimed to provide 10,000 people with a free pack to help them begin growing their own organic vegetables for the first time. These packs were designed to include organic seeds (donated by mail order partner The Organic Gardening Catalogue), beginners’ growing instructions, an introduction to organic gardening, a 2-for-1 voucher for Garden Organic’s beautiful display gardens and access to a dedicated website, www.getsetgrow.org.uk.
Within just a few weeks, the 10,000 packs had already been snapped up. At the campaign’s peak, a new entry was coming in through the website every 40 seconds! Garden Organic was so pleased that it arranged for an extra 5,000 packs to be provided, but these have also been requested now.
Garden Organic Chief Executive Dr Susan Kay-Williams says: “We are thrilled that the Get Set, Grow! campaign has been such a success. It shows just how many people are keen to have a go at growing their own organic food with a bit of support. We hope this is just the beginning for all those who took up the challenge, and that they will want to join Garden Organic to gain more help and support with their growing.”
Garden Organic launched the Get Set, Grow! campaign following the results of its recent survey conducted by MORI. This research revealed that 61 per cent of British garden owners would like to use more organic methods, but need more information or advice to do so.
