Description

A new show sponsor, a new bridal bouquet competition, new up-and-coming garden designers, layout improvements, more catering and bigger gardens than ever before – the 2007 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, sponsored by Marshalls, is set for a bumper year. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show, held annually in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, takes place on 22-26 May 2007 (22 & 23 May: RHS members only). Tickets must be booked in advance on 0870 247 1226 or at www.rhs.org.uk/flowershows

For the first time there will be a ‘bridal bouquet’ competition within the Floristry section of the show. Bob Sweet, organiser of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, comments, “Flowers are an important part of a wedding and this category will showcase a wide-range of flora, array of colours and variety of designs. We want this display to provide people, especially those who may not have extensive horticultural knowledge, with inspirational ideas for their weddings.”

Another key development is the improvement that has been made to the layout of Chelsea. Bob Sweet continues, “We have removed one of the big marquees from Main Avenue, which enables us to have large Show Gardens along nearly the whole length of the walkway. There will no longer be gardens at Rock Bank, which got crowded due to space constraints, but instead more show-stopping, large gardens along Main Avenue and Royal Hospital Way*. It is easier for visitors to see and enjoy gardens along these walkways, which will be a spectacular vision, than at Rock Bank.” In 2007 Rock Bank will be home to Sundries Exhibits and the Floral Design Marquee.

Once again the world’s best garden designers will be at Chelsea; Gold medallist and visitor favourite Chris Beardshaw has designed a garden that promises to be flamboyant, bountiful and floriferous; Andy Sturgeon’s design includes yew hedges, elements of surprise and a multitude of different views; Jinny Blom will create a warm, emotional garden and Diarmuid Gavin is including tiles in a giant floral pattern in his garden.

Bob says, “I am delighted two leading designers will be creating their first Show Garden at Chelsea; Gabriella Pape and Isabelle Van Groeningen’s garden will be exceptional. Another talented first time Show Garden designer, Robert Myers, who designed a stunning floral exhibit last year, is creating an ornamental garden for Fortnum & Mason with rich sumptuous planting and Linda Bush’s garden will address concerns about global warming, melting glaciers and expanding deserts.”

Another topical garden is being created for the new Chelsea show sponsor, Marshalls, by Scenic Blue. ‘The Marshalls Sustainability Garden’ will show that you don’t need to sacrifice style to be an environmentally aware domestic garden.

After all the excitement increased seating in the band-stand area will help provide respite for weary feet and there will also be additional catering facilities for a much needed cup of tea!

Visitors to the show will be offered a wealth of gardening ideas, with fabulous Show Gardens, inspirational Small Gardens and vibrant displays from over 100 of the world’s best nurseries and specialist growers to enjoy. Those wishing to learn and discover some of the wonders of horticulture must see the Lifelong Learning exhibits within the Great Pavilion. Added to that, displays of desirable gardening products, the latest plant launches, Floral Arrangements, Floristry and expert gardening advice, make the RHS Chelsea Flower Show the ultimate event for gardeners.
