Description

A traditional front garden for a cruck-framed cottage

A privet hedge was removed to reveal Victorian iron railings along the boundary, and gates in a similar style were made to complete the illusion of an enclosed front garden. A traditional knot garden edged in York handmade bricks was planted in keeping with the period of the cottage, with a quince providing a focal point. Perennial planting and bulbs were planted along the fence to provide an ephemeral screen without hiding the fence. A brick path leads to the front door while a rustic wooden arch leads around to the back of the house. A Victorian style beehive is used to hide the rubbish, and carefully positioned gravel planting integrates the car parking space into the site. The illusion of an enclosed front garden was achieved by gates made to match the fence.
