Flower Power Fairs – What is a specialist plant fair?

Now in its 4th year, Flower Power Fairs brings together enthusiastic plant growers from all over the North of England and introduces them to you, the keen gardener, looking for unusual, rare, quirky, but above all, good quality and reasonably priced plants. Many top award winning nurseries are invited to attend these events.

Flower Power Fairs – Welcome

Hello and welcome,

Last season proved to be a bit of a roller coaster weather-wise with high winds and cloudy days interspersed with glorious hot weather in May and June, but like the plants on sale, we all survived, met new customers and welcomed many ” old” faces who have become regular customers and friends too.
I’ ve got some really exciting new venues too – Holme Pierrepont Hall near Nottingham, Sandon Hall near Stafford and Thornton Hall near Darlington. All these venues have delightful gardens and I am absolutely delighted that they are keen to join Flower Power Fairs. I’ ve also tried to hold all the fairs at the venues when their gardens are at their very best.
Unfortunately Jodrell Bank will be closed for a £3 million rebuild of the Visitor Centre and Skipton Castle will be creating a new car park so we won’ t be at either venues for 2011.
The 2011 dates and venues have now been updated on the website and I do hope that you will consider coming to one or more of the fairs as they offer good quality plants at realistic prices and grown by the nursery people who attend the events. We are not pretentious, elistist or snobbish about our fairs. We have top quality nurseries, including many major garden show winners, long established family nurseries but also welcome small nurserymen and women who are perhaps just starting up. It is our policy to encourage new business rather than closing the door on them.
One major change for 2011 will be the new opening times of 11am-4pm for ALL venues. This allows a more leisurely time for your Sunday morning breakfast and lets the participating nurseries leave home at a slightly later time too.
Unlike other plant fair websites I don’ t list each and every nursery who attends because each venue brings you a different selection but if you do want to know exactly who will be there, please just fill in the enquiry form and I’ ll let you know.
I look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces to Flower Power Fairs.

Meanwhile, happy gardening, Judy Popley

"I love your fairs – everyone is always so friendly and although my garden is full, I always seem to find something that I haven’ t seen elsewhere and that I just have to have!"

The plant nurseries are passionate plants people who are delighted to share their knowledge with you and will give you expert advice on how to get the best out of your new plants.

"Each fair is so different and we love wandering around the stands."

You will also find many plants not usually available at retail outlets and garden centres and many cottage garden favourites and herbaceous perennials that are no longer sold at these places and of course, at much cheaper prices!

"Not just a plant fair … but a great day out visiting a fantastic garden too."

Entry to most of the fairs includes the gardens and grounds (unless stated otherwise). The fairs are so much cheaper than many of the larger garden shows, but bring you the same quality and diversity. You may also wish to visit the Hall or House (extra admission).

"A great day out. Can’t wait to come back next year."

And the fairs offer you first class catering and an inspirational venue! So come along and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of a Flower Power Plant Fair.

• Entry varies but all with refreshments on site (compare that to a day out at one of the big flower shows!)
• Personal attention and advice from the grower
Plants not normally sold at retail outlets
• Inspirational venues
• Free parking
• Friendly, peaceful gardens and parks to wander through
• A warm welcome!
• And hopefully, money left over for another visit to Flower Power Fairs.
