Spring delights announced for the RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff

An edible ambrosial forest, a futuristic allotment and a garden of serenity are just some of the highlights visitors can expect at the RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff (Friday 20 – Sunday 22 April 2007). Ticket sales are going well and visitors can save money by booking in advance on 08700 66 77 99. Tickets can also be booked online by visiting www.rhs.org.uk/flowershows

Preparations for the show are rapidly gathering momentum and six show gardens have been confirmed with more to come. Fresh from her gold medal win at the RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff 2006, Stella Caws returns with a design inspired by the Serenity Prayer. The garden ‘Serenity’ is designed to be placed within the grounds of a hospice for moments of quiet contemplation by residents, staff and families.

The RHS Spring Flower Show, Cardiff also looks set to inspire gardeners to grow their own fruit and veg as edible delights shape up to be one of the central themes of the show. The South Rise Leisure Gardeners Society presents an allotment garden of the future, ‘Tomorrow’s Garden Today’, designed to grow fruit and veg all year round by using renewable energy from solar panels and wind turbines to avoid CO2 emissions. There is also an edible forest garden, ‘The Ambrosial Forest – Food for the Gods’ by Anthea Guthrie Garden Design. This showcases unusual and unexpected edible plants such as mahonia berries, violets and primroses alongside woven willow sculptures of gods of the forest.

The new ‘Interactive Allotment’ continues the edible theme. There will be a series of presenters giving practical gardening tips on how to grow your own fresh, healthy produce throughout the year.

Other new features include ‘Claim to Fame’ gardens from communities throughout Wales and a schools wheelbarrow competition to test the skills of Cardiff’s green fingered youngsters. Finally, the ‘Experience Wales’ marquee returns featuring the very best of Welsh design accompanied by a feast of Welsh produce, food and crafts.
