A garden should be really special . . .

an oasis of calm on summer evenings after the day’s work is done
spectacular colours beset by spiders’ webs in the autumn morning mists
sculptural shapes accented by the frost on wintry afternoons
fresh new growth in the spring with the promise of warmer days ahead . . .

THE DESIGNER
Mary Ann qualified at the Oxford College of Garden Design in 1996. During the course her work was exhibited at both Chelsea and Hampton Court. In 1997 she took the RHS General Examination in Horticulture, passing with credit. In the same year she won a Gold Medal for a courtyard show garden at the Thames Valley Flower Show with friend and colleague, Susan Chapman. In that year she was also awarded a silver salver as the Living Heritage Garden Designer of the Year. In 2002 she built her second show garden at the Blenheim Palace Flower Show, once again collaborating with Susan Chapman, for which she won a Silver Medal. She teaches Garden Design at the Chiltern Garden School which she runs with a colleague, and is also a tutor for the Institute of Garden Design. She also opens her garden to the public from time to time and has recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.

Coming from a graphic design background, she believes that the garden should empathise with the house and its surroundings and become a truly special place. She is interested in both contemporary and traditional styles and is quite happy to tackle any size of garden. She is based in south Oxfordshire near the Berkshire border, and works within a 25 mile radius of her home.

SERVICES
Services offered range from a consultation for advice and ideas to a complete redesign for your garden, including plans drawn to scale with a detailed report, construction drawings and planting plans as necessary, tendering, and contract monitoring while the work is carried out efficiently by professional landscapers.

Consultancy Service
A site visit for advice and discussion of ideas, which can be accompanied by a pencil sketch with planting suggestions if required.

Design Service
A consultation and full site survey are followed by a pencil concept sketch showing proposed design details. The final version, known as an Outline Plan, is drawn to scale and clearly labelled. A detailed report with further advice and planting suggestions is also included.

Construction Service
Tendering for landscaping contractors can be handled, with contract monitoring while the work is carried out. Further details such as setting-out dimensions, construction drawings, contracts and specification documents can also be provided.

Planting Plans
These can be drawn up to scale and accompanied by detailed plant lists for ease of ordering, with a maintenance schedule as an extra option.

Planting Service
Unusual plants and/or mature shrubs and trees can be sourced and supplied, with setting out if required. A planting service can also be arranged.

Sourcing Service
Sculpture, water features, specially designed fencing and ornamental metal work can be sourced and/or commissioned to order.

Postal Service
The postal service is available for the client who lives further afield and/or wishes to do the work themselves. On reception of a scale drawing of the site, together with photographs and a wish list, an Outline Plan is drawn up together with a written report containing construction details and planting suggestions.
