Hasmead PLC Launches Cash and Carry Nursery with a Twist

Hasmead PLC is launching the newest addition to their landscaping empire, the Walled Garden Nursery and Landscape Centre. Set in a 300 year old walled garden on the historical Whitbread Estate in Southill, Bedfordshire, the nursery aims to focus exclusively on the needs of garden trade customers offering expert advice and an extensive range of perennial and topiary plants that garden designers and landscapers will find irresistible.

The Walled Garden Nursery and Landscape Centre is a cash and carry nursery with a twist. As well as being specialists in topiary planting, carrying species such as conifers, buxus and ligustrum, the nursery also carry a good range of hedging material and is developing a range of drought tolerant plants able to survive in the ground or containers in our increasingly hot and dry climate. These products make it possible to offer additional services such as hiring stock out for weddings and events that require an extra something to provide that touch of class.

Tracey Rowley, the centre manager explained: ‘We believe there is a need for beautiful quality plants in containers to dress restaurants, hotels and events. We welcome all trade customers and their clients to our nursery. We also see private clients by appointment’. Tracey is responsible for selecting the nursery stock and knows the importance of keeping in step with current trends: ‘I constantly keep an eye on the media to see which plants are getting a lot of attention at various events and shows. Having this knowledge, and the stock to back it up, helps make designers and landscapers choices easier when formulating a planting scheme’.

A good range of natural stone products including paving, aggregates, standing stones, Caledonian boulders, cobbles and slates along with bespoke fencing panels and trellis will ensure the Walled Garden Nursery and Landscape Centre can accommodate their trade clients in every way possible.

The plants for the Hasmead Sand & Ice Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show are being grown at the centre, several of which have been hand selected in Pistoia, Tuscany. Varieties such as the Agave Americana Variegata, a spiky Mediterranean plant ideal for hot, dry conditions, amongst other varieties of drought tolerant and shade loving plants will form the basis of the exhibit.
