Victorian Gardens Are Finally Brought To Life 150 Years On

Victorian Gardens Are Finally Brought To Life 150 Years On
Description
Two beautiful landscaped courtyard gardens have at last seen the light of day, over 150 years after they were first conceived in 1849. The gardens at City & Country Group’s acclaimed development, The Galleries, in Brentwood, Essex, have been created using the original plans and authentic Victorian layouts and planting.

These two stunning new gardens are the first of seven that will eventually be created around the development.

Tim Sargeant, Chief Executive, City & Country Group, comments: “When we first saw the plans for the Victorian hospital that is now The Galleries, we discovered that it had originally been intended that there would be two formal ‘house’ gardens and six airing courts, which never came to fruition. We realised that they would add something unique to the development and that it would be a fitting tribute to the original design of these striking buildings if we were to finally allow the plans to see the light of day.

“Previously, the area where the Courtyard gardens are was simply covered with tarmac and overgrown with weeds. The new gardens have already won several top national awards and feedback from residents is that these beautiful gardens really add something to the experience of living at The Galleries. It is truly wonderful to see them at long last gracing these elegant buildings.”

Sean Vessey, Design Associate at award-winning Landscape Architects, Liz Lake Associates, who was responsible for bringing the scheme to life, comments: “Although we have worked on several restoration projects across the UK, this particular scheme was most unusual. The courtyards are predominantly enclosed and will remain formal in character reflecting the architectural heritage. We feel we have created something very special at ‘The Galleries’ and hope that the residents will find the gardens a peaceful place to relax and enjoy their surroundings.”

The striking landscaping showcases a mix of traditional Victorian and contemporary planting of shrubs and herbaceous plants, with more formal clipped topiary framing the courtyard gardens. Vibrant splashes of colour, from plants such as roses, peonies and delphiniums, contrast with the soft greens of the herbaceous plants and shrubs.

The Galleries is City & Country Group’s multi award-winning restoration and conversion project of a Grade II listed former hospital. The building has been given a new lease of life thanks to a dedicated team of skilled craftsmen who have created a range of one, two and three bedroom homes that are unique.

The development is located on the fringe of Brentwood, on the third highest point in Essex, and has far-reaching views across to Canary Wharf and the City of London.  Nearby, Brentwood Railway Station has direct services into London Liverpool Street, with trains taking approximately 30 minutes*. Junction 28 of the M25 is a short drive away and Stansted Airport is less than 28 miles away**.

Prices for current availability range from £235,000 to £725,000. A new sales suite has opened at The Galleries. The suite is open Thursday, Friday and Monday between 10am and 5pm and Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
