Description
Yew Tree - Lydart Monmouth
property2.jpg  SOLD
A real hidden gem for avid gardeners, this unique property is only a short drive from Monmouth, within easy reach of the major road networks, yet has a truly rural location with an elevated aspect providing outstanding views.  This five/six bedroomed cottage has been updated and extended and there is a detached three roomed studio/office, all providing a very flexible layout suitable for a number of uses.

There are approximately 3.5 acres of gardens providing extensive lawn, wildflower meadow, bluebell wood, and long rocky water-garden.

There is extensive planting of many rare and mature and specimen trees and shrubs, including a large handkerchief tree. There are also a number of beautiful ancient oaks and other native trees. More pictures of the garden can be seen on

The gardens are all fully fenced, have some fine examples of specimen trees and shrubs, a number of which are extremely rare. There is a paved sun terrace, which can be accessed from the sitting room. Red brick paths and steps meander through the different areas which include a terraced lawns, flower beds, wildflower meadow/lawn, bluebell wood, 50 yard long water garden all of which have been designed and planted to create a great deal of interest throughout the garden. There are a good number of specimen trees and shrubs and the seasonal carpets of wild daffodils, bluebells and large swathes of crocuses in the Spring and Colchicums in the Autumn, are a splendid sight and there are outstanding views across to the Skirrid and the Sugarloaf and beyond and also over Monmouth from some parts of the garden. From the front porch stone steps lead down through the terraced front garden, which is mainly laid to lawn with specimen tree and shrub planting.  There is a gate to the footpath, which leads to a public footpath and many miles of walks, including over to Penallt Church and on down to Offa's Dyke etc.
