The Principality of Monaco is privileged to announce its involvement in The Chelsea Flower Show 2011.
The garden, which was commissioned by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, is being designed by award winning British gardener Sarah Eberle.
The Principality’s application to enter a garden at Chelsea was passed by the RHS garden panel in 2009.
Sarah Eberle said: “I am delighted to be the designer selected to work with a dedicated team, including designers, administrators and advisors in bringing an exciting conceptual garden to Chelsea that reflects the character, personality and vibrancy of Monaco .
“I have been involved in the industry for 35 years and in designing and constructing show gardens for 20 of those years. I can honestly say that this is one of, if not the most exciting projects that I have worked on and I promise you all a garden that will delight and excite the senses.”
The garden will illustrate the interaction of architecture and landscape that characterises Monaco. Monaco is a Mediterranean Principality the size of Hyde Park, highly populated, rich in character and supportive of the arts and the environment.
The garden shows how landscape and architecture can interact to provide aesthetic and environmentally sustainable solutions to enhance high density living.
The exhibit represents a private garden but it also reflects the geography and topography of the region, from the harbour and its maritime associations to the visually beautiful but small private garden spaces set amongst traditional and contemporary architecture
