Description
We see our service in four distinct stages:

1 - The Brief

The customer may provide a brief, or together we can write one after initial conversations. We can help with ideas using archive reference books, photographs of previous projects and samples of ironwork. An estimate of cost can be provided at this point.

2 - Design and Costing

A site visit can then be arranged for accurate recording of measurements and drawings. We find that specific aesthetic requirements can be understood better during a personal visit to the site. If the customer is confident with his or her ability in producing accurate measurements, then we would accept these via email or post. The recording of measurements needs to be very accurate.

Accurate freehand drawings – or computer-aided design drawings where appropriate – are sent to the customer for approval/sign off. If necessary, the design is adjusted until it is exactly as the customer wishes.

3 - Visual Sketches and photo-montage

A particularly useful stage in the design process is to prepare a photo montage of the ironwork in situ. This is a scale replica of the design as it would appear before the manufacturing process begins. Very useful when communicating with planning applications a photo montage is a brilliant way of visualising the final result. The possibility of errors are avoided and using the autocad computer programme every dimension of the design can be checked before commitment to manufacture. Pencil sketches are a great success too and can illustrate the design rapidly. Please click on the thumbnails to examine examples.

4 - Quotation

This would represent the total cost of the project including delivery and, if requested, installation. The quotation would itemise exactly what is being quoted for.

On acceptance of the quote a 50% deposit is required.

5 - Manufacture and Delivery

Manufacturing of large projects can be anything from a three to four month process, depending on the complexity of the design. The customer is kept informed of progress throughout this time - this may even include emailed photographs of specific elements during production - mouldings or sculpted features for example.

Delivery and, where required, installation dates will be agreed with the customer. The balance of the invoice (50% of total) becomes due on completion of the order as quoted.

Product Range:

Peter Weldon draws his inspiration from European ironwork styles of the 18th and 19th century.

This means that our ironwork is particularly suited to the traditional house and can be created to the period of the building.

Our range is designed and manufactured by a small team of blacksmiths whose skills lie in understanding the nature of the materials they use - namely a combination of both mild steel and cast iron.

If your need is for a bespoke design then please contact us as we can demonstrate our ability to take your ideas and convert them into professionally designed and manufactured pieces.

Many of our past commissions such as bridges, bandstands, estate gates and replica furniture have been created from the initial thoughts of the client, combined with our suggestions and creative interpretation.

Our strengths lie in the ability to tackle very complex jobs and re-create the most detailed of period designs.
