Coventry born sculptor 'Mendes' works from home. He was trained at the Coventry College of Art in the 1960s under George Wagstaff.
During the 1970s he was a member of the Minster Gallery Workshop in Hearsall Lane, Chapelfields, Coventry.
In the past his work has been exhibited in Cornwall, at Coventry Cathedral and other local Midland venues.
After a break of several years during which he worked in other mediums, Mendes has now returned to his first love - sculpting. He has been inspired by studying everyday body language that tells of emotions without the need for words.
The statues are made from a metal and mesh armature. Then, using a high alumina cement to form the finished shapes, they are finally coated in fibreglass resin and stained. This treatment enables the sculptures to be placed outside if desired and also aids their longevity.
