Description
Set in the heart of the mid-Devon countryside, Eggesford Garden and Country Centre is a great place to visit - even if you aren't a keen gardener.
We are really easy to find, just off the A377 Exeter to Barnstaple road and only 5 mins from Eggesford Station.

As well as a superb stock of plants, garden tools and sundries, we also have a wide range of gifts, country clothing and pet supplies.

The Gardens Restaurant serves a great choice of hot and cold meals, snacks and beverages - our delicious home-made cakes are a good enough reason alone to make a visit.
We hold many exciting events during the year including "Grow Your Own" Days, an Apple and Cider Festival and Craft Fairs.

Also look out for our special offers and seasonal promotions which vary throughout the year.

Eggesford Conservatories, The Company of Landscapers and Gallery Country Crafts are also located at the garden centre. The Gallery is run by a co-operative of local artists and is a great place to find high quality, locally made arts and crafts.

Eggesford Garden Centre is a good starting point if you are planning a walk in the area as we are on the edge of the Eggesford Forest and the Tarka Trail. We have plenty of car-parking and, best of all for the weary walker, refreshments in the Garden Restaurant.

Wildlife Gardening

Gardens are Britain's biggest nature reserve, covering nearly one million hectares. Studies have shown that an extraordinary 2000 species of plants and animals are found in the average garden.

However, a number of our best loved species are under threat - who would have believed that the hedgehog would end up on the endangered list?

Gardening with wildlife in mind has many benefits:

Attracting beneficial insects along with birds, frogs, toads and mammals like hedgehogs, can help control nasty garden pests. For example, ladybirds and lacewings eat thousands of aphids during their lifetime and hedgehogs and frogs  like nothing more than feasting on slugs and snails.

Birds are great fun to watch in the garden and also eat many nasty bugs that are munching on prized plants - an average blue tit family will munch their way through 12000 caterpillars in just a few weeks. Lots of birds in the garden also means that you will be able to enjoy the wonderful natural orchestra created by their singing.

Insects such as bees and butterflies are vital for plant pollination - without them our crops of both edible and ornamental plants would really suffer. Many butterflies only lay their eggs on certain plants so it's important to leave some "weeds" around the garden e.g., tortoiseshell butterflies need to lay their eggs on nettles. Recent studies have shown that there are more bumblebee nests in gardens than in the "countryside".

Eggesford Gardens is working with Devon Wildlife Trust to promote gardening with wildlife in mind.

The Gardens Restaurant

The Gardens Restaurant is well known for its high quality, home cooked food - wherever possible we source our ingredients from local producers and everything is prepared and cooked on the premises by renowned local chef Ian Stamate and his team.

There is sure to be something to take your fancy from the wide range of hot or cold meals, snacks, cakes, ice-creams and beverages on offer. We also have an extensive range of gluten free food on our menu.

With fantastic views across the Taw valley and seating for more than 100 people inside, the restaurant is a great place to take a break and enjoy a peaceful moment.

As well as the main restaurant we also have a sun-room area where muddy boots and dogs are welcome.

Outside seating is available in our pretty courtyard - a fine place to enjoy a delicious ice-cream from Dunstaple Farm Dairy.

Sundays are particularly busy so why not call ahead to book a table. If you would like to book please contact us on the main number and ask for the restaurant.
Part or all of the restaurant is available for booking by private parties or groups and catering can be provided to meet your requirement. We also can provide outside catering for parties, schools trips etc. Please either call us or drop by to discuss. Evening bookings are available for groups of 30 or more.
