Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 3rd to 8th July 2012

Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 3rd to 8th July 2012 Hampton Court Palace, Surrey

Encircling the Long Water and with the magnificent palace in the background, the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show offers an idyllic setting for a day of home-grown fun. This year’s show will boast new features as well as enough ideas, plants and gardening products to tempt gardeners of all ages.

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show will host displays of floral design, inspiration for small spaces and budgets, as well as marquees filled with roses and rare plants. Restaurants, cafés and picnic areas offer the chance to relax in truly magnificent surroundings. The hundreds of trade stands provide products and accessories for every gardener, from secateurs and planters to barbecues and gazebos.

This year’s highlights:

RHS/Groundwork Feature: Urban Oasis
The RHS is linking with Groundwork to highlight the benefits of the urban greening work undertaken by both charities, as well as celebrating Groundwork’s 30th anniversary. With Chris Beardshaw on board as designer, a large area will be transformed into an urban setting highlighting the type of projects Groundwork are working on across the country. A series of small projects will be integrated into the whole design, and will be relocated after the show to community neighbourhoods, thus giving them a longer life than most show features. This exciting feature will link in with the down-to-earth feel of the adjacent Grow Your Own and Artisan Food Marquees.

World of Gardens
A new feature of the show, World of Gardens, will represent different countries and regions of the world from Switzerland to State Russian Museum, to the Azores and Jordon. Visitors will be inspired by a variety of garden styles representing each of the countries, bringing a taste of the exotic to our very English setting.

Low Cost, High Impact Gardens
A new competition launched this year in conjunction with Association of Professional Landscapers will illustrate a diverse range of gardens achieved within certain budgets. Landscapers were invited to submit gardens costing £7k, £10k and £13k; one at each price bracket (two at £13k) has been chosen for the show. Gardens will be between 30 and 50sqm and will be judged for RHS medals and a best-in-category award. Visitors will have the chance to see amazing spaces designed especially for relaxing, socialising and entertaining as well as a dry friendly garden using chalk and drought resistant plants.

Hampton Grapevine
David Domoney will be back again with an exciting feature to the south of the Long Water. This year the format will be a gardening and lifestyle “chat show” which visitors will be able to watch live within the marquee theatre. It will include discussion on gardening-related products and style, plus an exciting live link to a roaming presenter who will be out and about on the showground, talking to designers, exhibitors and “bringing the outdoors inside”.

Conceptual Gardens, Show Gardens and Summer Gardens
Using garden design as a medium of communication, these gardens will inspire, inform and enchant. Visitors will have the chance to experience a Victorian fantasy garden with Bournemouth Borough City Council, admire a butterfly jungle while learning about conservation, discover the heritage of Badger Ales and celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Through the conceptual gardens, there will be a thought-provoking look at the work of Amnesty International, the difficulties of dyslexia and a look back at some of the country’s more shocking events including the London Riots 2012 and the Edgware Road Station bombings in 2005.

Great Tastes and Artisan Food Market and Growing for Tastes
Members of the Fine Food Guild, many of whom have won the coveted Great Tasted Award, will be displaying a selection of fabulous food products. The Artisan Food School will also be demonstrating how to produce artisan foods and showing visitors the many skills which have been lost but can easily replicated at home.

Rose and Floristry Marquee
This year florists and rose nurseries will share one marquee, near the Thames Entrance. It will include floristry for colleges and the launch of the Rose of the Year 2013. The theme of the whole marquee will be “Romance and Roses”, inspired by Pre-Raphaelite art, sculpture and poetry, and mythological characters.

RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Exclusive Preview Evening:
The Exclusive Preview Evening is a wonderful, relaxed and magical evening. Visitors can spend time listening to live music with friends and family while viewing the beautiful gardens and floral displays in style and comfort before tucking into a delicious picnic, or a meal in one of the restaurants.
