After leaving art college Martin trained at the Natural History Museum, producing a sculpture of a blue whale and calf which remains on display to this day. Moving to the National Museum of Denmark he worked with some of Europe’s greatest wildlife artists, visiting China in 2007 to study that country’s influence on bronze casting. Martin has also been resident artist at UK’s Nature in Art Museum.
Martin is guided by an enduring love of nature and a unique understanding of animal physiology. The result is a sculptural equivalent of impressionism: a simplicity of form and sensitivity to materials that creates an ageless and contemporary beauty.
Martin’s European Roller and Horus Falcon were shortlisted for the Royal Academy in 2011; his Horus falcon for the DSWF wildlife artist of the year 2012 and his Barn Owl featured at the Artists for Conservation festival 2012. Guests are welcome by appointment at his studio in the south of England.
